The Islamic State leadership media agency al Furqan released an audio recording of the group’s new spokesman Abu Hamza al Qurashi entitled “And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allah, He will give him a great reward”. In the message, approximately 7-minutes long, the new Islamic State spokesman confirmed the death of his predecessor Abu Hassan al Muhajir and the former group leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, announcing that the Shura Council of the group appointed Abu Ibrahim al Hashimi al Quarashi as the new Caliph and Emir of all believers (Amir al Mu’minin).
A few hours later, Abu Hamza al Qurashi’s speech appeared transcribed and summarized in the last issue of the official weekly Naba. The transcribed audio message was later translated in several languages.
Subsequently, several groups supporting the Islamic State began swearing allegiance to the new leader Abu Ibrahim al Hashimi al Qurashi.
Prominent pro ISIS groups are sharing several translations of the recent audio-message released by al Furqan Media.
At the same time, various provinces of the Islamic State have begun to issue photo-reportages depicting their militants swearing allegiance to the new Emir of the group, as had happened with the last video portraying Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
Despite the serious loss suffered by the group’s leadership, the Islamic State still maintains a performing media structure, able to coordinate the activities of both the organization’s provinces and its supporters. A new military campaign could soon be announced by the group to avenge the death of Abu Bakr al Baghdadi or to celebrate the appointment of the new Emir, Abu Ibrahim at Hashimi al Qurashi.
